AUDITIONS

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If your audition requires accompaniment (someone to play piano for you), please make sure to sign up for an audition slot that has accompaniment (see schedule below).

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Each act needs only 1 audition spot! When you select a spot, it will automatically assume you want 1 spot--don't change that please!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: YOU MUST BE A CURRENT LAGUARDIA STUDENT TO AUDITION!

Follow these guidelines when you register your act!

Each act must have a designated group leader. This person is responsible for distributing information to the people in their act as well as signing up the act for auditions and rehearsals. You can NOT be the group leader of more than 1 act.

Acts must arrive at the START of their audition block. For example, if your act has signed up for the 10:00AM to 11:00AM audition slot you must arrive at 10:00AM, ready to perform.

Auditions will be located in the basement at school. There will be a member of stage management there to take down the information of the group leader and direct your act on where to go.

If your act includes a film please bring it on a USB Flashdrive.

AUDITION F.A.Q.

Q. How do I sign up to audition?
A. Click the button on the home page or this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4EA4AA29A3F94-rising

Q. What if I need props or audio for my audition?
A. Chairs, drama blocks, and tables will be provided, as well as amps, speakers, aux cables, and iPhone dongles. If you have any other act-specific props, you must supply them.

Q. Can I audition with my band?
A. Yes, bands are welcome to audition, as long as all members are current LaGuardia students. We will provide audio equipment. Ideally, members will bring their own instruments, but if your band needs an instrument, please email Naomi Schwartzburt at lagrs2020@gmail.com, and we will try to accommodate.

Q. How do I audition to emcee?
A. Emcees in Rising Stars are a recurring comedic act consisting of a pair of students. If you would like to audition with a partner to be emcees, please email lagrs2020@gmail.com and come to the audition with 3 short skits prepared: an opening and closing skit (1 minute each) and a middle scene (45 seconds). The skits should fit the theme of My Vision: 2020.

THIS YEAR’S THEME IS… MY VISION: 2020!

2020 is a pivotal year for the world, the country, the arts, the school, and us, the student body. We all have the potential to impact the future with our words and our actions. How can you make a difference? What change do you want to see be made? What does your future look like? How will you use your talents to make a meaningful impact?

Rising Stars continues to be a memorable and meaningful show because of the creative and individual interpretations that LaGuardia students bring to the table. Don’t be afraid to take risks and push the boundaries. We want to see any and every way you can harness creativity and talents that are unique to you.

We want to know: What is your 2020 vision?

F.A.Q.

Q. How well does my act have to fit the theme?
A. We encourage all acts to try to formulate pieces that pertain to the theme as well as possible, however, we do not wish to discourage you from auditioning if it does not correlate perfectly.

Q. What is the maximum number of acts I can be in?
A. You can only be featured in up to two acts, but you can be in several large group acts. This will be considered during your audition.

Q. What is a group leader?
A. A group leader is simply the person who will distribute information to the rest of the group. This person is not "in charge" necessarily, but they must be responsible and check their email regularly. YOU CAN NOT BE THE GROUP LEADER OF MORE THAN 1 ACT; this is especially important during auditions.

Q. Once I'm in, am I in for good, no matter what?
A. No, there will be a check-in. This is simply to make sure all acts have progressed since the audition. We are not looking to cut acts!

Q. How many days will I have to be at school for this?
A. After the audition, groups are expected to attend a few after-school rehearsals, which they will be able to schedule for their own availability, Check-ins (TBD), a few tech days in January, and performances. Inability to attend any of these may result in the cutting of your act.

Q. How long can my act be?
A. 1-4 members: ≤ 2 minutes
5-9 members: ≤ 3 minutes
10+ members: ≤ 4 minutes
